Building A Supply of High School Economics TeachersBuilding A Supply of High School Economics Teachers

Funds were provided for the creation, testing, and the evaluation of a state-wide and potential national dissemination of an online teacher-training course directed at helping high school educators teach personal economics. The course, which is being field-tested in Missouri and Kansas schools, meets national and state standards and requirements.

In developing the course of study, the Missouri Council has paid special attention to including quality materials that already exist, enabling teachers to translate what they learn in an in-service environment directly to their classrooms.

The Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation is providing $15,000 toward the $75,000 budget for the project. The training programs are designed to be asynchronous and hence, are flexible in order to meet teachers’ busy schedules.

In addition to supporting this project, the Calvin K. Kazanjian Foundation has already produced materials available through the Council for Economic Education, FTE, and others which will be incorporated into these new, online, teacher training units.
